Soapstone Carving

To close our Social Studies unit this year,  the Grade Fours had the opportunity to carve their own soapstone sculpture.  They were able to choose from the bear, eagle, orca, or wolf; which are all symbols important in  Aboriginal stories and culture.  Soapstone  is a metamorphic rock composed essentially of talc which makes it soft and easy to work with.  Here are some snap shots of the fun afternoon!

Thank you to our resident artist Mr. Hardwood who has many notable works all over Canada.
