Gr7-Two Chinese songs for Grad Dinner

All of you are supposed to memorize the lyrics and then you can sing and enjoy with other classmates. There will be a rehearsal tomorrow on Thursday.
We have practiced a bit in class and also arranged the position that you are going to line up. There will be two rows. Girls will be in the front, and boys are standing on the wooden benches at the back row. Please ask your classmates about your position if you helped the race event at the gym today.

Gr.6 Food Project-營養飲食 & 垃圾食物

Dear all,

It was great to see many groups have started working on their Food project. Try to find colorful pictures from flyers distributed by some superstores or grocery stores.

It was very easy and important to tell if those food are healthy or not. You all have learned in class about those five characteristics of so called “Junk Food”. In general, they either too sweet or too salty. Most deep fried food are unhealthy because they in general have high calorie and with low nutrition.

There are two samples I saw in class on Friday. They have completed searching for various of food and glued on the project paper already. The next step is to add language info. including CH. characters, Pinyin and EN meaning for each item.

There are three reminders that I hope all other groups should try not to making the same avoidable mistakes. That is covering the KEY WORD. Please don’t cover Junk Food and Nutritious Food in the middle of two boxes. It’s essentially important to show and to highlight these two key words to classify clearly two categories of food.

In addition, try to attach different kinds of food to enrich the content of your project. It won’t be accepted if you attach 3 chips with different flavors or 4 kinds of fruit. variety of food will be highly expected.

Also, if there is a choice, of course, the appropriate size better and clear pictures will be better and more welcome. I am looking forward to see you and your partner’s wonderful and impressive work soon.

Below are two nice projects with beautiful pictures from two groups. They both work very hard to follow instructions and meet requirements. Good Job : ) It will be much better if they can make some minor changes which I have mentioned and explained above. Thanks!

Gr.7 Cooking Project-Happy Chef:用愛心給父母做一餐飯

 Dear all,
     Please find the enclosed files that all students have them in black and white. Below is the design about those three good copies which should be filled out, and attached on the poster. Color pictures on the good copy and answer all questions as well. In addition, you need to have at least 6 photos (one for each section of the cooking procedure). As for the title, each of you will receive a title to attach the poster, next Monday.

Gr.5 Kitchen Project-廚房用具 & 餐具

Dear all,
I am very happy to see there are some very responsible students in both Gr5 classes to follow instructions and project schedule to get their parts ready.
All students have the handouts, project notice, and teacher’s reminders to follow and to complete the project step by step. Here are two samples I saw in two different groups today. One has completed one third of items and labeled each of them and added the right Pinyin beside as well. The other group has completed one fourth. They finished the title and some pictures are ready. Both of them set inspiring examples for the class. Well Done & Keep Going :)
I would like to encourage every student to try your best. Please communicate and remind one another among 4 members in your group.

Gr. 4 Skit Project:我不太舒服 not feeling well

Dear all,
Gr4s completed taking a quiz about all symptoms of sickness and some terms to describe and to use while not feeling well. Most of the students did a great job. And this is a good start to prepare for the next step of presenting a skit in front of the class.
All students also have know already their group members to play a skit. 4 people per group. The main characters could be the sick child, one parent, a doctor and a nurse.
Next week, we are going to focus on practice with clear instructions and some samples demonstrated in class. Through this assessment in Term three, all students are expected to show their conversational skills and verbal progress in Mandarin. Some costume, props and active body language will be very welcome based on the result of discussion for each group.

Mandarin Project for Gr. 4-7

Dear all,

After learning the topic of Mother’s Day, students in different grades are now learning different topics for Term Three, and so there are different projects working currently in each grade. They all have received certain handouts,instructions, and done some worksheets as various practice. I will post important info. and details separately for each grade in different new posts later. Below are just the plans and big ideas.

Gr.4′s Topic: Sickness. Students are learning a text about the topic and all symptoms while not feeling well.

Gr.4′s Project: a relevant skit- 我不太舒服 (4 people per group: a sick child, parent, doctor, and a nurse)

Gr.5′s Topic: Kitchen. Students are leaning how to say those items they see in their kitchen and various daily used dinning utensils in Mandarin Chinese

Gr.5‘s Project: Kitchenware & Dinning utensil-廚房用具& 餐具 (4 people per group making a relevant poster with some colorful pictures of items about the topic and labling CH. keywords they are learning)

Gr.6′s Topic: Food. Students are learning to tell Junk food from nutritious meals as well as to recognize key words of common veggie, meat and seafood.

Gr.6′s Project: Nutritious Meals vs. Junk Food-營養膳食 對比 垃圾食物 (2 people per group making a relevant poster with colorful pictures got from any newspaper, any store flyers or online resources

Gr.7′s Topic: Common Cuisin Menu. Students are learning and reviewing main ingredients like veggie, meat and seafood as well as common dishes on Chinese menu.

Gr.7′s Project: Cooking a meal with love用愛心為父母做一餐 for parents (Each of the students has planned to cook a lovely meals for parents over this coming weekend and to show their gratitude for parent’s hard work and great support in the past few years;  must under parent’s supervision and/or some help if needed); record the shopping and cooking procedure through taking pictures.

Takoyaki selling on playground this Bazaar, Saturday

Dear all,
​we are going to make and offer fresh and hot Takoyaki (章魚燒), octopus balls and shrimp balls (蝦仁燒) on the playground,. We sold it for the first time three years ago. Our tasty food and ​service amazed many customers. Therefore, people kept requesting for the stand to be brought back.
 Some weekends have been spent on planning and preparing. Finally, we are ready to sell Takoyaki again this bazaar. All t​he proceeds will go to support the parish as fundraising income.​ You are welcome to stop by and to have a try​ if you are interested​. Thank you!

Summer is finally here!



Dear all,

Summer is finally here. It was great to see the students running, chatting and playing ball on the newly renovated playground.

Time flies, and there is only one and a half month left for this school year. Gr. 7 students will graduate and proceed to high school afterward. Wish you all the best!

Congratulations to all Winners on Stamp counting day

Dear all,

The result of the Stamp Counting for the duration of Term-one has come out already.

There are two competitions included. Part One is about all stamps that the students have received for their “learning achievement” from various topics. Part Two is about all stamps got due to each student’s overall “class performance” which has marked on their Mandarin record card. They are generally six students rewarded in each class who have received a symbolized present as a prize. However, some classes have seven winners. It means that there are two students who received the same amount of stamps from the teachers.

I am very glad to announce the winners of each class. All the winners not only focus on the learning task in classes, but also work very hard to achieve high marks. Please join me and congratulating their remarkable achievement and excellent performances. In addition, I would like to support all winners to continuously maintain your good work attitude. In the meantime, the rest of students in each class are strongly encouraged to try your very best. Hsu Laoshi is looking forward to seeing other students’ progress.

Online learning language tools

Dear students and parents,

Today I would like to share you a very helpful language tool which has been introduced and demonstrated in Mandarin class. You are highly expected to take a look and to have a try for one or two functions.

It is the “Yabla”. That is not only an online dictionary, it but also offers lots of interesting and engaging activities, language games to review vocabularies and to improve listening comprehension through watching authentic videos.

I have made a pdf for use instructions. Hopefully, it will help you to look up any information in Mandarin, to enjoy watching those short videos, and to help your child to work more efficient and independent when they need to do any Mandarin homework or projects at home.

All students are aware of being an honest and trusted child. Moreover, they have been educated regarding the importance to well take use of the technology and Internet as well. They are encouraged to use a computer as a learning tool for some time in order to complete any searching tasks.
