March Newsletter

Spring is around the corner!

Grade 4 March 2020 Newsletter

Dear Parents,

We hope that this newsletter finds you well. It is hard to believe that yet another month has passed by and that term two is almost over. February was an active month for all the students as we practiced hard for our class Choric Speech for the Speech Arts Festival as well all those who participated in the solo poetry and bible readings.  We have been crunching the numbers hard for our multiplication unit and used our problem solving skills to answer word problems.  We also went to the Aquarium to experience some Biomes first hand and now the students are busy at work making a Biome board game. Grade 4 students also visited the Fraser Discovery Centre to gain knowledge about the Fraser River and its history with trade. They experienced what a trading post would have been life and how unfair trade was between European settlers and First nations peoples.

Religion:

The season of Lent is underway. It is a time of preparation for the resurrection of Jesus Christ on Easter Sunday. We will be discussing the importance of Lent as a time for prayer, reflection and renewal of our baptismal vows and sacrifice. The students are encouraged to pray the Stations of the Cross and pray for themselves, their families and others in the world.

Upcoming dates to add to your calendars:

  • March 12 Second Term Reports
  • March 13 Noon dismissal – last day before Spring Break
  • March 30 School Reopens
  • March 30 – April 3 Miss LeRose away for First Aid course

Spring Break

Here are a few suggestions about what to do during the spring break:

  • go to your local library and spend some time reading your favourite books
  • go for a walk and look for animal habitats at Stanley Park
  • visit Science World and look at their exhibitions
  • visit the Vancouver Art Gallery and enjoy the Emily Carr exhibits
  • have a picnic at your local park (depending on the weather)
  • play a sport outside (run, skip, bike, play basketball or soccer)

Please remember to continue signing agendas.

Blessings,

Miss S. LeRose

Mrs S. Snyder

Thank you :)

Hi everyone ,

My time as the 4s teacher has come to an end . It has honestly been one of the most positive experiences of my professional life and I feel very lucky to have been a part of your children’s lives for the past few months. They really are such  a special group of kids and I will always remember them and all of you with great fondness.

I would like to particularly thank you all for the lunch on Friday . I couldn’t believe the amount of effort that had gone into the organizing and execution of that and I am so grateful .

I will be around the school all week to help Mrs Snyder and all the children with the transition , so feel free to contact me by email if there is anything any of you need.

Thank you all so much again !

Miss C 🙂

February 11th

Happy Tuesday everyone , we had a very happy day in 4s . We have been selected to represent our school in the Speech Arts competition . This is a super achievement for all the kids and they really deserve it as they all worked so hard , helped each other and were committed to the process . It was a very enjoyable activity for us all and I could not be prouder of each and every one of the kids today .

Also a huge congratulations to Atticus Sun who will be representing our class and our school in the individual competition of Speech Arts . This is also a super achievement and we are all very proud of Atticus .

Well done to all the children who took part in the individual speech arts , it takes a lot of courage to take part particularly in the individual category and they should all be very proud of themselves.

Thank you to the parents to came out to support us . I will post a video of the children’s performance of Seesaw tonight .

No homework tonight to celebrate 🙂 🙂

The children can use their own lined paper or I can supply it . There will be no LPN homework this week or next week to allow the children time to complete this . This story should be submitted to by Thursday February 20th for grading.

February 5th

Hello everyone ,

Apologies for the lack of post the last two days . Just a couple of reminders .

Reading logs – I am a little late collecting the reading logs this month , my apologies for that . I will be collecting all of the reading logs by the end of this week so if the children have any catching up to do it will need to be completed by Friday . A lot of the children are still very focused on summarizing in their reading logs , please encourage the children to use a variety of strategies each month ( questioning , connections etc)

Speech Arts – We have been working very hard on our group speech arts and it is sounding really great . We do not want to drop the ball at this point so please remind the children to keep practicing. Any individual speech arts need to let me know by the Friday .

Permission click – I am still missing six parents for permission click . If you have not received the link please first check your spam folder , if it is not please email me on ccomerford@sfxschool.ca and I can resend the link .

Mrs Snyder return – Mrs Snyder will be returning to grade 4 on March 1st . We will be working together for a number of days to ensure a smooth transition  . If you have any questions or concerns about this transition please let me know .
