by Ms. Hsu. Posted on
Dear students and parents,
Below are the pictures taken in Mandarin class for the Moon Festival celebration.
The Moon Festival is another big event for Chinese people. It’s just like the western Thanksgiving Day. Today in Mandarin class, the students are very happy and excited about the first party they have in the new school year.
They enjoyed round fruits and round snacks since “round” is the symbolization of reunion and happiness. Hopefully your family will also have a good time together.
I am very glad to share the following fantastic pictures with you all.
Cheers,

Annual Chinese Calligraphy Week
by Ms. Hsu. Posted on
Dear all,
In order to help students to know more about traditional culture, and to experience the practice of Chinese Calligraphy,
Intermediate Mandarin curriculum has designed and created the opportunity for one week long per school year. Please come and see how engaged they are in the class and how interested and concentrated they are to hold the brush and to well control hand’s movement. They followed the teacher’s instructions to keep their writing in good shape and in balance in order to show the beauty of Calligraphy.
You are all welcome to come to our bulletin boards on 3F to appreciate their art work. You should be very proud of their presentation and performance. Other than this, they also have completed the year project about the theme, Year of Monkey for the Chinese New Year. Students’ excellent projects have been posted along the stairways. Please find attached their amazing outcome.
We are going to prepare for an action song for the big celebration of Chinese New Year on Wednesday morning, Feb. 3. Look forward to seeing you there to join us the cultural event and to give our children the best support and encouragement.

by Ms. Hsu. Posted on
Dear students,
Our annual calligraphy practice has ended. I was very glad you enjoyed the cultural lessons and paid much attention in class. Even though this is the first year for you to practice the calligraphy Chinese, You did your best to experience the difference between writing with a pencil and a brush. I know some of you haven’t use the brush pen ever, and so this is the first time and it’s very challenging to write Chinese characters with a brush and ink. I hope you all enjoy the practice.
Time is flying and one week has past. On Friday, the last day we quickly reviewed what you have done and presented your great work. Below are some pictures taken while presenting. See you next year at R301 for Calligraphy practice.
Dear parents,

Dear students,
Our annual calligraphy practice has ended. I was happy for you that many of you could tell the difference between the writing using a pencil and a brush . After a couple years of practice, you understand the way to show the beauty and characteristics of calligraphy Chinese. You realize the importance to measure the space you have on the paper, and to keep all characters in the same size no matter how many strokes each character has.
This is the last year at SFX, but I really hope you can keep the interest and find some time to practice continuously. I enjoy writing Calligraphy because it helps me to practice patience and maintain in a peaceful mood. I hope you will also find some happiness while writing calligraphy.

Gr.4-7 on Pajamas Day- “Pajamas”中文怎麼說呢?
by Ms. Hsu. Posted on
Dear students,
We have learned two terms on Thursday in the beginning of the class. They are “pajamas and robe”.
Do you remember how to say them in Mandarin?
They are 睡衣shuì yī and 睡袍 shuì páo。
睡袍也可以是“浴袍 yù páo” especially when you wear it before or after taking a shower.
please view who wore pajamas, and who wore robe on the Pajamas Day?
You are encouraged to speak in Mandarin at home when you need to know where is your pajamas or when you are looking for them?
The sentences could be:
媽媽,請問我的”睡衣”在哪裡? May I know/ask where is my pajamas?
(Mā ma, qǐng wèn wǒ de “shuì yī” zài nǎ lǐ?)
媽媽,你有沒有看到我的”浴袍”? Mom, did you see my robe?
(Nǐ yǒu méi yǒu kàn dào wǒ de “yù páo”?)
Let’s practice 🙂
